A milky-white, almost translucent octopus appeared on the Pacific seafloor near Hawaii. Researchers say it doesn't match any documented species โ€” and may belong to a new genus.

The footage came from a remotely operated submersible exploring the abyssal plain. The octopus's lack of pigmentation suggests an ancient lineage adapted to total darkness. Formal classification could take years.
